MILLAA MILLAA, TABLELANDS TO SOUTH MISSION BEACH. Thursday 16th May, 2019./ Friday 17th May 2019.

THURSDAY 16th MAY.

After the weather clearing a little yesterday afternoon when we left the Lakes area we ended up having a very wet night in Millaa Millaa. As we were under trees a lot of dripping noises on the roof but we still seemed to sleep well. The bed is very comfortable and we have both been sleeping well. Very cosy even on a wet night. The camp owner told us that it was 2700ft up in these hills and usually gets the mist/cloud up here on the Tablelands. We woke up to a quite thick mist which was disappointing as we had a day ahead of us with landmarks to see on our way before we left that area. Lots of drizzle but after all it is The Tablelands and that's what it does up here. There was going to be at least five waterfalls to see but only manage three that were all on a loop road off the main highway. After all the rain with the cyclone going through further north made the waterfalls more spectacular. All this rain we have had is all part of the cyclone but we were not near the eye of it. It just spread its rain over a much bigger area and we are still getting rain, then the sun pops out for awhile. Then the rain comes back. Looks like it is going to be around on and off for another week. 😒. No matter what the weather is like in the mountains they always have some appeal. I loved this area being up in the hills.

 Very wet night last night, woke up to all the mist and cloud and fine drizzle. Had a drive through the town of Millaa Millaa and continued our trip across the Tablelands. The weather affected the photos but still,  one has to take them for the records.

Our first stop Millaa Millaa waterfall. Perfectly formed as it drapes itself over the rocks. We could park at the bottom so didn't have to walk far.

As we continued along the ridge you can see how thick the mist/cloud was. There is something about being in the mist up in the mountains.

Our next stop the Zillie Falls. We couldn't walk down to the bottom of these falls so came out on a platform at the top looking over the edge.

The path then continued on a little and we could see the fall.



We were now on our way through the rain forest rain quite heavy now, but that wasn't going to stop us as we had a longer steep walk down to these falls, which brought us out at the bottom of them.  Soaked!!

Made it to the bottom well worth it. But now we have the steep walk back up to the road.

Back on our way on the main highway we stopped the Mungalli Creek Bio-Dynamic Dairy factory. They specialised in cheeses. Still up in the hills.

Lovely little cafe so we had to try their scones,jam and cream and a toffee cheesecake.

Next stop was the Crawford lookout. Along way down but still misty even though we are on our way down the steep roads.

Finally at the bottom at sea level on our way to Innisfail then on to South Mission Beach for two nights. Banana plantations in the background. Also sugarcane fields. Note how wet the roads still are.

After our wonderful journey over the hills we finally arrived on the coast. A quick drive through Innisfail and then down to South Mission Beach where we stopped last night and tonight. Still raining most of the time but gave us break from the driving. Looking North.

FRIDAY 17th MAY.

Did very little today had a drive back up to Innisfail and stopped by the riverside and this is what we brought for lunch, below, although most of it had been eaten before we thought of a photo

Just before we left to return to South Mission Beach it started to clear up and the sun came out. But as we drove back out to the coast we meet up with the rain again. (That's my portion on the left.  PT)
