EMU PARK, 25th May, 2019

What a great day the sun shone all day and we enjoyed exploring the small town and relaxing around camp. Really like this area and wish we had more time to stay longer. Lovely town well designed and the whole area is so well done, well manucared gardens and parks area for kids and families. A well worthwhile visit. This area is called Emu Park, it's not the name of the park. The camp site is just behind the sandunes, a small walk to the beach. Very pleasant spot.

Above and below the township of Emu Park. The parks all round the waterfront are huge. It's all about the outdoors. The beach in front of us sweeps right round. Then if you go around on the other side of the point there is a patrolled Surf beach. A bit of something for everyone.

The camp is just behind these small sand dunes. Only a few metres walk through the trees to the beach.

And when you come out to this magnificent beach.

Looking north where it sweeps around.

Then when we walked back to camp just crossed over this part of the camping ground. Up to our van straight ahead. PT bending down doing a bit of checking or maintenance.

We have now crossed over to the surf beach around the point from us. Not much surf today as the wind has dropped right away. Beautifull spot. Out to sea are the Keppel Islands. Captain Cook named this area including the islands Keppel Bay.

A lot of memorials remembering the ANZACs around the coastline in the parks.
If you look carefully the above is a glass panel engraved with the solders to give an impression how it looked when the men were climbing up the hills from the beaches at Gallipoli during the first world war.

A portrayel of  woundered solders looking out to sea.

Anzac Court memorial. We don't often see the NZ flag flying in Oz. All this memorial area is build on the small hill on the point. Slopping up from both beaches on either side.

We walked up the small hill. Looking out from here is the beach that the camp is on.

At the top the Singing Ship to honour Captain James Cook RN 1728 - 1779 who discovered and named the waters out there  in these waters, Keppell Bay 26 - 28th May 1770 this time of the year.

The Singing Ship. When the winds blow this monument sings with all its chimes. Fascinating.

This is the outlook at the top of the hill looking over to the Keppel Islands. So well done.

Just at the bottom of the hill at the end of the beach were we are staying. Our entrance to the camp would be somewhere up behind the yacht mast.

Tomorrow is a huge gathering of old vintage cars in the reserve just in front of the camping ground. So I guess we will have to hang around until 9.00am to have a quick look before we leave tomorrow morning. The above 2 cars are both Cadillacs. Not sure of the year but I was told that the red one had had the internal lining, carpets dash etc all ripped out and replaced by Holden interior. We are heading up into the hills just after Rockhampton, through Mt Morgan down through Biloela to the Cania Gorge  National Park where we stay probably for one night but maybe two.
Lots of walks to do or not to do. Wouldn't have time to do them all, but looking forward to see what they offer. There is a lake up there which I would like to see but couldn't walk there, would have to use the van, but that of course depends on the condition of the road. After Cania we were going back down through Bundaberg then to Hervey bay but have now decided to head straight for Hervey Bay for three nights. Not sure re wi fi in the hills.
