BOWEN TO AIRLIE BEACH. Wednesday 22nd May, 2019

Left Bowen about 8.ooam only a hours drive today to Airlie beach. Checked in camp at 10.00am then headed off  to do the 2km boardwalk along the waterfront into town and got about 300mts and it was all closed off doing maintenance to the pathway. The only option to walk into town was over a hill but we first had to nearly walk back to where we started. By now it started to rain buckets, we got drenched. Shelterd under a tree but it wasn't going to stop so walked back to the bus stop and caught the bus unto town. $3 each for a return trip good value. Got into town wet through and walked the shops. The sun then came out again. Got a few photos but by the time we got back to camp it came down even heavier. After a couple of beers walked along the road, still raining, to get a Chinese take away. Yum best Chinese we have ever tasted.

Walked up this hill still pouring down to take this shot of the yachts.

Now in town and the sun has come out time to dry out.

Looking the other way.

There is no beach in this part of town between the shops and the sea, so they have made a very nice swimming pool to make it look like a lagoon.

Looking over to the small beach in town which has been all fenced off due to upgrading the area. A lot of places are doing their maintenance upgrades this time of year before the southies  come up for the winter months probably starting late June. What with the boardwalk into town been closed we missed most of the walking areas in this very touristy town.

Now Just leaving camp at 8.00am Thursday  23rd May. The weather had cleared so we went down to the marina to get a few shots before we left Airlie Beach.

These photos show how much we missed yesterday due to the closure of the boardwalk that went from our camp for 2km to the town. If only we had beable to complete this walk all the way into town we would have seen a lot more of the area.

Beautiful area, all part of the boardwalk, restaurants, and the pick up area for the trips out to the Whitsunday Islands. We saw a New look of Airlie Beach just before we left. If you don't do the boardwalk you miss out on so much of the area.

Do you like Pops new phone , ha ha.........

PT having a beer in his Harry Potter coffee mug as the glasses in the van are so small. Look at the puddles outside. It was really chucking it down then but we were very cosy in our small home.

This is with the slider out.

Slider out, slider in. As you can see there is quite a difference. When the slider is in you have just enough room to walk sideways around the bottom of the bed.

Jen you wanted a map as to where we have been and are going. It's a bit hard to find a small map this is the best I could do. The black dots are where we have stayed a night or two  and on the east coast gone as far as Airlie Beach the rest is still to come down to Brisbane where we fly out on the 9th June. Couldn't fill in all the name places not enough room on the map tried but it looked a bit messy.

-----------

Just having the one night at Airlie Beach a bit touristy but we enjoyed our day regardless of all the water that fell on us. Possibly heading to Cape Palmerston tomorrow for the night but depends at the time with regard to the weather. No point going out to a cape if there will be heavy rain. We will make that decision before the turn off to the Cape as to whether we go out or just keep going South a bit.
In the time here we have been watching the news at 6 o'clock on tv7 or tv9. As you can imagine it is very orientated towards Australia but last night (Tuesday) there were two items on NZ. We nearly fell of the seat. One item was with respect to the Pike River re-entry and the either was about the Australian chap who was before a judge on the Moslem drama.
The other matter that I wanted to bring up was that people travelling with caravans or campers always give you a wave. So we do in response. It's nice.
