Second day in Bowen and and we have sun, sun. Spent the morning driving around the area to see as much as we could. Really nice place. A really nice place to have a two night stop. Still quite gusty but that's fine as it keeps us cooler from the heat. Also great to catch up with the washing. Got back to camp at 1.00pm then had a lazy afternoon. PT brought himself a beer to have before dinner. Only the second beer he has had since we have been on the road. We had both been enjoying ginger beer later in the afternoons.
Another beautiful day in Bowen. In front of our camp taken early with the tide in, looking direct south into sun.
This is looking from the same spot looking north to Queens beach which is more of a sandy beach with bigger waves coming in.
Looking north along Queens beach. North of us.
We have now come back past our camp and driving up towards Horseshoe Bay at the top of the peninsula looking back at our campsite in the middle of the picture.
Heading north towards Horseshoe Bay with lots of boulders.
Fascinated by these huge boulders.
We are now up at Horseshoe bay. Beautiful but small bay on the other side of the Penisular. Another camp ground and a few resorts up here.
Looking out over Horseshoe bay.
This is Horseshoe Bay still and just leaving now going back down the peninsular to find Murray Bay. But when we came across the road to take us out PT thought it didn't look suitable for us. Quite narrow with trees hanging over the road. Also going down these narrow roads you never know what's at the end, whether there is a place to turn our machine or if you have someone coming towards you if there will be enough room to pass each other. Thought about it but decided not to go.
Grays bay where they launch their boats came through this on our way up now going back through on the way down.
Another road branching out to the coast to Rose Bay. This road was a lot wider and looked as though it had all being upgraded not too long ago. Probably as there was a resort out there. This is a dog friendly beach where people can give their dogs a good run. In the distance is Flagstaff Hill where we are heading to.
Just before we went up Flagstaff Hill we took another road which took us past the Port and sailing club at Port Denison. These wind socks were just beside the sailing club. Good idea for the kids to be guided by.
Now up Flagstaff Hill looking out to the East over some little islands, one with a lighthouse on it. Further out are the Whitsunday islands.
Looking down over the marina and the town of Bowen which is on the other side of the peninsular from where we are staying.
This building is at the top of Flagstaff Hill. It looks like a "retired" restaurant but a notice indicates that the business has closed due to some quite extensive damage created by Cyclone Debbie in October 2017. Camper in the background.
The view looking out from the above building. The wind was really blowing in up there and the sea was very rough. The sea is a beautiful colour.
At the bottom of Flagstaff Hill at the end of the beach that runs right up to Rose Bay where we were earlier. The hill at the far end is where we were going up to the end of the Peninsular also.
These rocks where looking the other way from the above photo. Island in the background of the island with the light house.
This map is to explain where we have being today. Our camp is on the waterfront in Queens Bay (not Queens beach) we are under the letters "EN" in Queens Bay. Horseshoe bay at the top of the Peninsula, top right, main town area down behind Port Denison, Flagstaff Hill bottom right and Queens Beach top left. A very lovely area. We have enjoyed our time here but will be leaving tomorrow. Not sure were we will end up a couple of options.
Time for a beer 🍻
