Left Kynuna at 8.30am driving an hour arriving at McKinley Crocodile Dundee's Walkabout Creek Hotel, which is now famous for being recognised as the Pub in the Paul Hogan movie 'Crocodile Dundee'. The town only consists of a couple of stores, a few houses, bowser station and the pub which all featured in the film. The population of McKinley is 21.
....
Walkabout Creek Hotel McKinley, originally was build down the side road off the main highway in McKinlay. But after the making of the film they moved it up onto the side of the main road obviously as it was now famous, they would get more tourist interest to pop in. We had noticed in the film that it was a metal road outside and wonder how that was filmed but we see now that it did used to be on a metal road..
The actual Jeep like vehicle that was used in the film to transport Crocodile Dundee around in.
The pub is all decked out to stop for a beer. Although you wouldn't want to sit out side with all those outback flies after you.
As you drive into McKinly, pub is on the left, our van just leaving the car park and the side road where the pub used to be is next on the left.
Now inside at Walkabout Creek Hotel. Looking into the bar area.
PT having a chat to the publican.
Looking acros the front of the bar.
My photographer (PT) was too busy talking to the publican. Not concentrating and blurred me out but a least we got Crocodile Dundee in.
We are now leaving for Cloncurry. The fields have become a lot dryer and they obviously haven't had the rain earlier in the year that the previous areas we have been through have.
These are the ant hills that are everywhere for several kilometres they build them amongst the grass, around trees,
And even out in the open red soil. They just go on and on. Thousands of them.
Now seeing hills again leaving the extremely flat fields behind us.
You must say why do I take so many photos of the landscapes looking out of the front window as we are driving along. I do this to show all the contrasts of the different land formations we are driving through. We are now getting a little rolling country.
Above and below a real contrast after all that flat countryside we have been travelling through for days. It is now getting a lot dryer not a lot of green around.
We arrived into Cloncurry and went straight to the information centre. In the grounds they had a museum of all deferent old machinery etc. The above is what is called a rail ambulance. Cloncurry had no Rail Ambulance until 1954 when a Ford V8 road ambulance was converted to rails. If you look closely you can see the wheels are rail wheels and the rails on the ground in front. The ambulance had a top speed of 48kph on the tracks.
Another museum piece.
We then climbed up the back of the centre and took these looking down over Cloncurry. Our camp was looking down in the distance just out of town.
Above and below looking around from the top.
At the top. Makes a change from all the flat land we have been through.
Tucked away in our little pen for the night in the Cloncurry Caravan Park Oasis. We arrived here about midday shorter driving today. Apart from a walk up the hill behind us we just relaxed in our camper chairs in a cool place in the shade. Very hot today so will be interesting to see if it will be as cold tonight as the last two nights.
